BRITEPath for Clinical Use

The ETUDES Center aims to disseminate evidence-based tools for suicide risk management to the community.  As part of this effort, the BRITEPath platform is available on the HIPAA compliant Google Cloud Platform (GCP) for use by providers and clinicians with their patients.

What is BRITEPath?

BRITEPath includes the BRITE app, a safety planning phone smartphone app for adolescents. BRITE was developed by researchers and faculty in psychiatry and psychology at the University of Pittsburgh and University of Texas Southwestern (UTSW).  Work for the development and testing of BRITE has been funded by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH; R34 MH100451; P50MH115838) and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) and a clinical use version IRB protocol has been implemented to cover collection of usability data (STUDY20050047). To our knowledge, BRITE is the first smartphone-based safety planning app that has been tested in clinical trials with suicidal adolescents.   BRITE promotes self-monitoring and self-management through personalized strategies to avoid or cope with triggers for suicidal urges. been rigorously tested in clinical trials to address public health problems related to:

BRITEPath also provides clinicians and providers in the community with the tools to onboard their adolescent and young adult patients to the BRITE app. This includes aiding youth in the development and personalization of a safety plan, incorporating distress tolerance and emotion regulation strategies, and monitoring symptomatic progress for at-risk youth in their care.
